Animals in your Paintings
Slice of Heaven

Do you love the sight of horses in a field, a deer by the stream, or a cat in the window? This course was requested by my students, and in it I will show you how to understand the way animals move and stand, thier typical gestures, and how light shines on thier coat. Then I will show you how to place animals in your paintings so that they look natural and believable. In this class, you will be in the company of other artists who are also animal lovers!

This is a twelve week course beginning on Thursday September 2, from 9:00 am until noon.

Painting Outdoors Made Easy
Endless Summer

Do you love to paint outside in the fresh air, but get overwhelmed trying to match all the colors you see before the light changes? There is a shortcut wich will help you make color decisions quickly and easily. This method, taught by instructors at the Art Students' League in New York, includes a box filled with colors you pre-mix yourself. I will show you how to use these colors to convey distance, light and air; and how to keep your paints fresh to use each time we go outdoors. Once we have created our color boxes, we will paint outside in and around Nashville.

This is a twelve-week course beginning on Thursday September 2, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Winter 2011

Painting Tips and Techniques
Slice of Heaven

Here are some professional secrets for achieving vitality, individuality and freedom in your paintings. Armed with these tools, you will learn to develop your own "voice" and paint like a pro!

This is a twelve week course beginning on Thursdays in January, from 9:00 am until noon.

Painting Children from Photographs
Endless Summer

Much as I like to encourage people to paint from life, there are some subjects that just don't sit still! Children and babies sometimes just have to be painted from a photo. In this course I will show you how to capture the likeness of children while keeping the painting fresh and lively. You will learn how to capture those subtle skin tones and the fleeting expressions of childhood and infancy.

This is a twelve-week course beginning on Thursdays in January, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Summer Workshop

Fellow artists,

One of my dearest friends has offered the use of her cottage in Gloucester Massachusetts as a base of operations for painting in August. I have set aside a weekend for sharing with you the secrets of capturing that charming seaside community on canvas: August 14 and 15, 2010.

I have always believed that a workshop should focus on sound instruction in such basics as color, perspective and composition as well as the fun of sparkle and brushwork. This will be no exception. I will demonstrate for you, and then I will work with you individually in order to address your specific needs.

You will be one of only five students in this workshop, and the price per day is only $50. This is a recession special-- grab it while you can! You can commute from the Boston area, or if you choose to stay on Cape Ann, I can send the contact information for a local inn. If you are travelling from out of state, I would suggest that you fly to Boston and take the Boston and Maine Commuter Rail to Gloucester.

If you're interested, please write back to me and I'll give you the details.

Looking forward to this!

Sincerely,
Gayle Levee

PS. Here is a picture I took in Gloucester, showing some of the lovely cottages we can paint.
